Book Cover

From the title one could expect that there is going to be some dialogue in which someone says something to Raquel but gets unanticipated response. Or Raquel one day wakes up and speaks something very upsetting. I can confirm that the writer himself discusses so many things that are weird. And that is what makes the book interesting.

I always like to hear weird things. And so I was attracted to reading this book because of its title, Raquel Says Something Entirely Unexpected. I was expecting something very unusual. However, I got the inconceivable. This book will walk you through a process in which one physical being can live as several other characters at the same time. Sounds absurd, yea? The same person is dead at an instance, living at a different age and time at the same instance, and also the very one real in material world. Not only that. I found it more perplexing that the same male character is also a lady. Two different beings born the same time living parallel life far from each other, but each one know the thoughts and memories of the other. Kind of what we read in the holy books about the Trinity where we have three persons in one.

What struck my mind most was how similar his views are to what I secretly believe. That my fate can be the same as those who lived before me, and we somehow share life history. He believes that it is his time to quit life because he has attained forty years, and great writers who lived before him died at about age forty. It seems book writers die at about age forty just the time they are about to find a world or rather create a world with their words.

In this book the writer, Mois Benarroch, addresses life issues in ‘entirely unexpected’ way. When I started reading the book I thought it was not worth my time. There is no good flow and it seems as if the writer wrote the book as a way of passing time. But just a small dive into it and you are gone! Gone from the material world to a world where people can design and create themselves, a world where you can travel back and forth in time, a world of limitless possibilities.

If your desire is to know what people think in their secret thoughts then this book serves perfect for you. The writer has shared explicitly his thoughts about contentious issues in life. Something that makes him appear insane. He loves being real even at the cost of his income. He talks about the creation, the mystery of words. Writing, book authors and poets, relationships, the transitions an individual goes through right from birth.

One challenge I found was the characters in the book. I could not easily tell who was speaking at some point. Especially in a dialogue where a characters has not been named, you only read what they are saying. So you have to read and reread a number of times. And so I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars.
